How Our Classrooms Differ
At Coventry School, we have very low student to teacher ratios. When classroom rations are very small, you can focus on individual levels and expand upon curriculum with depth and detail. Your children will get more individual attention in order to maximize their developmental potential.
It is one of our goals to promote and build upon each child's potential. Children are not place in a program solely based on their chronological age. We also take into consideration the child's intellectual and social skills. By placing children where their skill levels lie, we can work one the individual development level of each child.
Our hands-on, center-play environment prepared learning centers, and developmental-thematic curriculum facilitates and supports whole child growth. We incorporate MI, Dr. Howard Gardner's theory of Multiple Intelligence, in all facets of the school. We foster all areas of competence:
Logic
Linguistic
Spatial
Musical
Intrapersonal
Kinesthetic
Interpersonal
Naturalist
When we are teaching, we make sure to teach in each unique learning style and technique. We teach concepts through audio, visual, kinesthetic, and hands-on techniques. There is a balanced, holistic approach to teaching at Coventry School.
Our centers allow children to explore hands-on while building upon and extending their knowledge. These centers can facilitate learning through:
Investigating
Exploring
Comparing
Manipulating
Constructing
Computing

Constructing
Observing
Inquiring
Testing
Expressing
Processing
Problem Solving
Each child learns at their own speed and all planned activities build upon one another. There is a reason and sequence to what we teach and all activities correlate. Teachers prepare environments, guide activities, allow for open-ended activities, and prompt responses. Developmental thematic curriculum was chosen because it builds upon itself and ties one concept into the next, which fits well with current brain research on how the brain assimilates information and learns. By combining centers with thematic learning, manipulatives within centers change with each new theme, constantly creating new learning experiences.
